Will You Achieve Your Business Goals In 2017?

This is the time of year when many people make New Year’s resolutions. Lots of people don’t even bother to make any, because they remember all too vividly the failures of new years’ resolutions past. The reason the vast majority of new year’s resolutions don’t stick ISN’T that we are weak-willed, it’s that we mentally process them as WISHES rather than GOALS.  Let me explain…

The difference between wishes and goals is how REALISTIC you make them.

If you focus in on goals that are realistic and take the necessary steps to stick with them for the long term, they you will have a far better chance of seeing them through. And this DOUBLY applies to our Business Goals. So let’s take a look at what the elements are for making resolutions that we can actually stick to.

Goals vs. Wishful Thinking

We can all write down our wish list, but that’s ultimately all it is.  If you begin the new year with a long list of wishful items such as improving your retail, mastering Facebook, and writing a fabulous newsletter every single week, then you’re essentially writing down your wishes and not your goals.

Goals have to be realistic and attainable, and if you set the bar too high then you’re setting yourself up for failure from the start. Instead, from your wish list pick the one you really want the most, and decide to focus on that one exclusively.

Write it down. Plan it out. Then think through what steps you need to support the attainment of that goal. When you have nailed that particular goal, congratulate yourself, then move on to the next one.
